Bought with my own money
Commonlabs is a brand I wanted to try for a long time. I saw it around but never tried it. Last year there was huge sale on Stylevana and I bought some of their products. But not long after all of the old lines got discontinued and now they have only Vitamin C line in their offer with changed packaging and logo. I don't know what happened, I haven't found any infomation wheter the brand was sold to another company or they just wanted to start over. So because all the old lines are now discontinued and probably you'll never be able to buy these again, I decided to review them only on my blog (since it's like diary and reminder to me) and not on my SM (I can't keep up with posting every piece I'm using, not to mention those already discontinued).
So I'm starting with this Glow Boosting Mask. This one was advertised as natural lemon mask, containing AHA, BHA and PHA and 7 types of pure Vitamin C. It softens the dead skin to remove it, moisturizes the skin in addition to exfoliating function.
Let's look at the ingredients. We have Mandelic Acid (AHA) and Lactobionic Acid (PHA). BHA comes from Willow Bark Extract, that is known to contain natural salicylates but it's not Salicylic Acid per se. Now let's look at the 7 types of pure Vitamin C claim. We have Ascorbic Acid (1,000 ppm) and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (1,000 ppm). All other Vitamin C comes from fruit extracts and are not pure, so we have: Lemon Peel Powder, Lemon Fruit Extract, Orange Fruit Extract, Grapefruit Fruit Extract and Lime Fruit Extract, that gives us 7 vitamin C sources, but except for one, these are not pure. Except for these key ingredients, worth mention ones are: Sodium Hyaluronate Polymer, Allantoin, Panthenol and Witch Hazel Extract. This mask is free of Alcohol and Fragrance per se, but contains Essential Oils: Lime Oil. It has viscous texture, with little pieces of I think Lemon Peel and smells like organic, natural Lemon, kinda bitter and sour.
My experience
I'm not fan of scents in skincare. And although this mask doesn't contain any Fragrance, it has very present a bit strong smell of fresh lemons. It's not bad but it's not pleasant too. I love the pretty orange texture with little lemon pieces. It's very easy to put on but surprisingly this dries pretty fast and when it's dry it can be troublesome to wash off properly. After washing it off my skin is so soft and clean, but it can be drying at times. I used it in my morning routine from time to time and it was very nice. I haven't seen any brightening effects but maybe it helps my other brightening products to work.
Overall it was a fun mask. If it was still availabe I wouldn't recommend it though. It could be irritating for sensitive skin types and if you're looking for brightening masks, there are other worth trying.
