AROMATICA - Vitalizing Rosemary Decoction Toner [Discontinued]

Bought with my own money

Aromatica is a relatively unknown brand, now gaining recognition primarily for its hair care products. I’ve only tried two of their products before: the HA serum and the HA cleanser (both of which are now discontinued), so this toner is the third item I’ve tested from the brand. I came across it at a huge discount and decided to give it a try—especially since I had enjoyed my previous picks.

When it arrived, I put it aside in my stash and, honestly, didn’t feel particularly motivated to open or test it right away. As time passed and the expiration date crept closer, I realized I had to use it or toss it. I think what initially put me off was the toner’s color—it made me assume it would be thick and sticky, and I was worried it wouldn’t absorb well. Little did I know—once I finally used it, it quickly became one of my favorite toners to reach for.

Let's check brand description. According to Aromatica, this is a daily moisturizing toner designed to refresh tired skin while providing intense hydration and soothing effects. It claims to remove excess oil and residue while delivering a thin layer of moisture. Enriched with Rosemary Extract and Aloe Vera, it’s supposed to protect the skin from moisture loss with deep hydration.

Let's taka a look at the actual INCI list. It contains of only 16 ingredients. The key ones being Rosemary Leaf Oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract and Aloe Vera Leaf Extract. It also contains Chamomile Flower Extract and Verbena Extract. It's free of Alcohol but it contains Essential Oils (Rosemary Leaf Oil and Aniba Rosodora Wood Oil) and while it doesn't have added Fragrance as a listed ingredient, it contains perfuming ingredient - Linalool.

The texture is very watery and runny, with a whiteish appearance. Although you might expect it to smell strongly of rosemary, it actually has a mild, slightly citrusy scent that isn’t overpowering. It comes in a large 300ml glass bottle, which feels premium.

My experience

As I mentioned earlier, I was genuinely surprised by how much I liked this toner. First of all, the watery, lightweight texture is perfect for my oily skin—it absorbs incredibly fast and doesn’t leave any residue. The scent is very subtle.

I also like the simple INCI list, although I wouldn’t say it’s the best option for sensitive skin. It didn’t irritate my skin when used on its own, but when layered with a serum, I occasionally experienced a mild burning sensation around my eye area (which is the most sensitive part of my face). It only happened a couple of times, so I’m not sure whether it was the toner or the serum that caused it.

In terms of hydration, I wouldn’t call it intensely hydrating. One layer was enough for me, and I’d describe the effect as moderately hydrating — more of a skin-prepping toner that leaves the skin fresh and clean, rather than deeply moisturized. If you have dry skin, you might need to layer it, as the brand suggests, because one application likely won’t be enough.

Overall, I really liked this toner. I can’t quite explain why — because based on the INCI list and the actual results, it’s not exactly the type of product I usually go for. But somehow, it worked for me. I treated it more like a prepping toner in my evening routine, especially after double cleansing, and it felt just right.

That said, I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. If you have dry skin, you may find it not hydrating enough. If you have sensitive skin, I’d be cautious due to the essential oils and perfuming ingredients. I think it would be best suited for oily or combination skin types who don’t have issues with essential oils or fragrance in skincare.

Unfortunately, this toner has been discontinued, but oddly enough, I think I’d repurchase it if it ever came back.
