MARY & MAY - Rice Glutathione LHA Cleansing Oil

Gifted by the brand and yesstyle in exchange for review

This is Mary & May's first cleansing oil, so I was very excited about this release. Luckily, I was selected to try this product as part of the YesStyle Influencer Program, and the package also included their famous eye cream. I've already finished the cleanser, so let’s dive into the review.

First, let's look at what the brand says about their new cleansing oil. Mary & May advertises it as a multi-functional cleansing oil designed for sensitive skin. It’s formulated with LHA and is meant to gently remove impurities, dead skin cells, blackheads, and whiteheads without irritation. Enriched with Glutathione and Rice Bran Oil, it also aims to brighten and even out the skin tone, leaving the complexion clear, smooth, and radiant.

Let’s take a look at the ingredient list. The INCI list is quite short for a cleansing oil and contains 23 ingredients. It includes six oils (Rice Bran Oil (the primary oil), Citrus Junos Fruit Oil, Soybean Oil, Panax Ginseng Seed Oil and Camellia Japonica Seed Oil) along with Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (LHA) and GlutathioneIt’s free from Alcohol, Fragrance and Essential Oils but it does contain Ethylhexyl Palmitate and Isopropyl Palmitate, which may be irritating or comedogenic for some skin types. The oil has a semi-thick texture with no noticeable scent and comes in a 200ml plastic bottle with a pump.

My experience

I'm really impressed with this cleansing oil. It checks all the boxes I look for in this type of product: it's unscentedhas a simple and clean INCI listemulsifies easilydoesn’t irritate my eyes, takes all the makeup effortlessly and washes off without leaving any residue.

At first, I thought the texture was very light because it felt so runny. However, after finishing this bottle and switching to the Isntree Mugwort Cleansing Oil (which is noticeably lighter), I realized this one isn’t the lightest out there. Still, that doesn't affect its performance at all—it works really well. It removed all my makeup effortlessly, though I should note that I'm not a heavy makeup user.

One thing I want to mention is the brand’s claim about brightening and evening out skin tone. After using the entire bottle, I haven’t noticed any visible results in that regard. But honestly, that doesn't bother me—I don’t expect those benefits from a cleansing oil. I rely on serums and creams for brightening effects. However, for those who are specifically looking for brightening properties in their cleansing step, I don’t think this oil delivers on that front.

Overall, I really like this product. It’s joined the ranks of my favorite cleansing oils, and I hope future releases follow the same path: simple INCI lists, no fragrance, light textures, no residue and non-irritating formulas.

I highly recommend it to everyone—even those with sensitive skin. Just make sure the added emollients (like the palmitates) don’t cause irritation for your particular skin type.
