SKINFOOD - Carrot Carotene Daily Mask

Gifted by the brand and yesstyle in exchange for review

I'm not really a sheet mask user, mainly because I don’t often have the time to sit and relax with one on. As a result, I don’t have much experience with masks and can’t really compare them to others. Still, I was quite happy whan Skinfood and Yesstyle reached out and I received these masks. They were my first masks that came in a single container, as I had only used individually packed sheet masks before.

Let’s take a look at what the brand says about them. The Carrot Carotene Daily Masks are daily sheet masks infused with Carrot Extract, which is rich in beta-carotene to soothe and hydrate irritated skin. They’re meant to promote skin health and relieve irritation.

Now that we know how Skinfood advertises them, let’s check the ingredient list. Niacinamide appears 4th, followed by Carrot Root Extract in 5th place (7.5 ppm, less than 1%). The formula also includes Adenosine and Arginine in the middle of the list. Near the end, we find Carrot Seedo Oil (100 ppm, Beta-Carotene 16,335 ng) along with numerous essential oils — Sage Oil, Bergamot Fruit Oil, Patchouli Oil, Lavander Oil, Orange Peel Oil, Siberian Fir Oil and Rosemary Leaf Oil. The last ingredients listed are Hydrogenated Lecithin, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid and Madecassic Acid. The product is free from added Alcohol and Fragrance but does contain many essential oils, mentioned above.

A quick note on the key ingredients — Carrot Root Extract and Carrot Seed Oil — both containing Beta-Carotene. The root extract is known for its antioxidant and skin-regenerating properties, while carrot oil provides vitamin E and fatty acids that give it antioxidant and barrier-repairing effects. These sound awesome and I was very excited to try product with Carrot.

The masks come in a large plastic container with tweezers and include 30 sheet masks. They are soft and thin, with a noticeable herbal scent. It’s also worth mentioning the short shelf life — only three months after opening.

My experience

As I mentioned earlier, I’m not an experienced mask user, but I didn’t enjoy these at all. When I first opened the container, the strong herbal scent was overwhelming. The masks were well-soaked in essence and felt juicy to the touch. The size was fine — maybe a bit large — but still comfortable to wear. However, they dried out very quickly. Skinfood recommends leaving them on for five minutes, and that’s definitely the maximum. If you leave them longer, they dry fast — once I forgot about it and after just 15 minutes the mask was completely dry. I didn’t notice any soothing effects, although the remaining essence absorbed quickly after removing the mask.

Another issue was the short shelf life — only three months. I couldn’t finish the whole container in that time, and I had to throw away nearly half of them. So, if you decide to open this product, make sure you’re committed to using it regularly, or it will go to waste.

Overall, these masks just aren’t for me. I didn’t like the scent, the experience, or the results. The ingredient list also isn’t to my liking, as there are far too many essential oils for something marketed as soothing. They didn’t convince me to start using sheet masks, and I definitely won’t repurchase them.
